Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone (2012) [BOOK]

Commando: The Autobiography of Johnny Ramone was published on April 2, 2012. Following its release, Linda Ramone, surviving spouse of Johnny Ramone, gave many interviews in oder to promote the book properly and to provide the adequate attention to the book, which it deserves.

I enjoyed reading Commando, since I always liked and listened to the Ramones’ Brain Drain album, but had never bothered learning about their story. Reading this book, while listening to a bunch of Ramones albums from different eras, gave me a better understand of their musical and business behaviour. I’ll be reading more books of other Ramones members to hopefully receive a different point of view and gain an even better understanding of the band.

One of my favourite quotes from this book is:

“I was driving in Los Angeles, and somebody called out to me, “Hey, you’re driving a Cadillac. How’s that? How are you a punk if you’re driving a Cadillac?” I said, “What the fuck are you talking about? I wrote the book on punk. I decide what’s punk. If I’m driving a Cadillac, it’s punk.” – Johnny Ramone

Definitely a classic quote and a book any rock music enthusiast should read.
