Electro Deluxe live at Kaufleuten, 15 April 2015
Last week, I had the pleasure to meet and interview James Copley, singer of the French funk-jazz ensemble Electro Deluxe, before their very first ever gig in Zurich. We talked about their band, the music biz, and more. Besides finding the very eloquent American-born-now-living-in-France musician a very savvy businessman, given his former career as a PR & communication manager, I was impressed by the band’s focus on being independent and goal-driven business approach. Electro Deluxe surely know what they are doing.
The other thing that impressed me was their extreme energetic and close-to-perfect live performance. Sure, the band consists of only professional musicians that also work as sidemen for other projects, but that is no guarantee for such a flawless performance. James said during the interview that he finds Electro Deluxe to sound even better live than on record. Many have claimed that, but he was definitely right. Their 100-minute live performance blew me away. I had never heard them sound better. Not on their latest album release ‘Home’ and not on any live recording you can find on YouTube. It reminded me of a James Brown concert I had seen in the mid-1990s. Top-notch entertainment, flawless musicianship, perfect dynamics… simply a concert to remember.
If Electro Deluxe is in your town and you like a good and fun funk concert, go see them. You won’t regret it.
By the way, the interview with James Copley will be published in June 2015 on From-Hero-To-Zero.com. Don’t miss it.
