Los Angeles-based metal band Butcher Babies, fronted by Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, released the video to Monsters Ball off their forthcoming sophomore album Take It Like a Man, which will be hitting the shelves on August 21, 2015.
The uptempo song is very characteristic of the band, but comes with more screamo singing of both Heidi and Carla, than melodic singing. Their melodic singing voices only appear in the interlude. In comparison to previous releases, I feel that this performance is among the best of both Heidi and Carla. I like the timing and arrangement of their vocal parts, a lot!
The instrumental parts carry Monsters Ball well with clever riffs and arrangements. I really enjoy the breaks that build bridges between the straight metal riffs and the more danceable grooves. Henry Flury (guitar) and Jason Klein (bass) did a good job with the riffs, which are underlined by Chrissy Warner’s creative drumming.
In addition, the production of the song builds upon the production of Butcher Babies’ previous releases and takes it a notch further in terms of clarity and – what I like to call – high-gloss packaging. Certainly a great way to introduce the waiting for Take It Like a Man. I will definitely look for it as soon as it’s out on August 21.
And now, check out the video and the song, enjoy!
